Student Life at Immanuel Christian School

Where students feel welcome from day one

As a parent, you want to know what your child’s day will feel like and whether this will be a place where they can settle in and make friends.

At Immanuel Christian School, we take thoughtful care in helping students feel at home from the start:

  • Younger grades begin with summer playdates, so children can meet teachers and classmates on the playground before the year begins
  • New students in grades 2 through 8 are paired with buddies who meet them ahead of time and help them get familiar with the campus
  • High school students join the Warrior Wingman program, which matches each new student with an upperclassman who becomes a reliable guide during those early weeks
  • Throughout the year, shared experiences like athletics, clubs, retreats, and service days build on your child’s sense of belonging, while our Biblical foundation shapes the way students learn, interact, and care for one another.

Clubs That Build Confidence & Community

At ICS, clubs and organizations are intentionally designed to support the whole child — academically, socially, and spiritually.

Clubs and activities provide students with safe spaces to try new things and discover what they enjoy, while helping them uncover how God has uniquely gifted them. Teachers and advisors come alongside students, encouraging them to step into leadership roles and foster collaboration, communication, and public speaking skills.

Many clubs mix students across grades, which helps friendships develop. Plus, when a high school student is excited about something, from card strategy or political philosophy to writing music or service, they can often build a group around it. This freedom to explore interests helps students feel known and supported.

Students find meaningful ways to practice compassion and leadership through national honor societies, student government, and events that support local community partners. These experiences reinforce the school’s mission to shape thoughtful, compassionate young people who understand how their gifts can serve a larger purpose.

Faith That Shapes Everyday Life

Spiritual life at ICS is guided by Bible instruction, meaningful chapel gatherings, and worship opportunities that help students understand how Scripture speaks to their daily lives.

Service is part of that same rhythm, with grade-level partnerships and a high school service day that connects students to real needs in the community. Explore grade-by-grade details on our Spiritual Life and Learning Through Service pages.

Events & Traditions That Students Look Forward To

The school year at ICS is filled with moments that help students feel connected and excited to be part of the community. These events and traditions deepen friendships and create memories that stay with students long after the year ends.

Arts and Celebration

Throughout the year, students have opportunities to share their gifts and talents through beloved school traditions and performances. From our K–12 Christmas Program and Grandparents Day to the Grades 5–8 Talent Show, students build confidence while celebrating creativity with classmates and families. Our annual Spring Theater Production provides opportunities for aspiring actors, musicians, dancers, and stage crew members to collaborate in a full-scale performance, while the High School Coffee House has become a favorite student-led evening showcasing music, dance, drama, and original talent.

Events and Traditions

Community and Spirit

Community and school spirit are woven into everyday life at ICS. Throughout the year, students celebrate three Warrior Spirit Weeks filled with themed dress days, friendly competitions, and energetic pep rallies that build school pride and strengthen community. Student government also hosts casual grade level hangouts that encourage friendships and class unity, while schoolwide outings, such as trips to DC United and Washington Wizards games, create memorable experiences beyond the classroom.

Events and Traditions

Milestone Traditions

Milestone traditions mark each stage of the ICS journey. Our Kindergarten and Senior Buddy program builds meaningful friendships through special activities throughout the year. Eighth graders strengthen their faith and class community during a retreat focused on spiritual growth and connection. At the end of the year, the Senior Parade provides a memorable sendoff as K–8 students line the halls to celebrate the graduating class in their caps and gowns.
