Fine Arts in Lower School
Exploring students’ God-given creativity
At Immanuel Christian School, fine arts begin in the earliest grades as an essential part of our holistic approach to Christ-centered education. Through music, visual arts, and drama, students discover and develop their God-given gifts while learning to appreciate beauty, creativity, and excellence. Fine arts are intentionally woven throughout the curriculum, creating meaningful connections between subjects and helping students engage with what they are learning in creative and memorable ways.
Music Class
Grades K-4 participate in regular, interactive music classes where they learn basic music theory, choral performance, musical instruments, and note reading. Each year, students diligently practice a choral piece to perform at our annual Christmas Program, an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their growing knowledge and skills.
Our goal is for students to develop a love of music and find creative opportunities to worship and glorify God!
Art Class
In addition to music class, the K-4 curriculum includes regular art classes where students study a variety of mediums and techniques as they learn to see what is good, beautiful, and true in visual art. Students learn to paint, sketch, model with clay, weave, and explore many other skills as they study famous artists and periods of art history.
The goal is to expose students to a wide variety of methods and styles and encourage them to image our Creator as they discover their own personal creative gifts.
Drama
Whether it is the kindergarten Nativity Play, first grade Reader’s, or the humorous fourth grade performance of “Missing Parts of Speech,” students have the opportunity to develop confidence and expression through many dramatic performances. These regular opportunities are a highlight for students, teachers, and parents alike each year, and provide a springboard for drama class and other middle school plays and electives.
Clubs & Private Lessons
Students can continue exploring their artistic interests through a variety of after-school opportunities offered throughout the year. Choir Club helps students develop vocal technique, confidence, and performance skills, while Art Club introduces new artistic techniques through drawing, painting, ceramics, and other creative projects.
Private music lessons are also available for piano and a variety of other instruments before school and at select times during the school day, providing additional opportunities for students to grow in their musical abilities.
