ALL: School Christmas Program and Grandparents' Day is Thursday, December 19

Family and friends are invited to join our K-8 students for the Christmas program on December 19 at 8:45 a.m. in the Worship Center. Grandparents will be recognized during the assembly! Please take note of important details below:

  • Worship Center doors open at 8:15 a.m.
  • Students are dismissed at 12:00 p.m. There is NO extended care.
  • After the program, grandparents and guests are invited to the Atrium for coffee and music by our instrumental music students and then a visit to their grandchildren’s classroom(s).
  • Questions? Below are some of the commonly asked questions and answers.

May parents and siblings attend the Christmas program?  Yes!  Everyone is invited.

Are parents able to visit the classrooms with the grandparents?  We request that only grandparents or special guests visit the classrooms because space is limited.  If grandparents need special assistance, please contact Kim Akers in the school office to let her know that a parent will be accompanying the guest.

May I help?  Certainly! Lots of help is needed. A sign-up is available on ParentSquare.

Alumni Invited Back on Grandparent’s Day

Christmas is just around the corner and is a great time to reconnect with former ICS classmates! We host grandparents on our last school day before Christmas vacation with an all-school Christmas program. This year, we are also extending an invitation for alumni to join us!  Relive your youth by reserving a seat for the Christmas program beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th and plan to stay to enjoy a hot chocolate and visit with former classmates from 10 -11:30 a.m.

Click to let us know you’re coming! Only needed for alumni for this event. Returning students can come for the Christmas program or just the hot chocolate and fellowship…or attend both! We look forward to seeing you on December 19th!

Below are the requirements:

  • Kindergarten: Sunday dress clothes

ALL: Celebration Books for Grandparents

Honor your grandparents in a unique and lasting way. Consider adopting a Celebration Book in their name for Grandparents’ Day. A personalized bookplate honoring your grandparent(s) will be affixed inside your chosen book and presented to them on Grandparents’ Day. Come see the librarian for requested titles available in the library. Enjoy the book over Christmas then return it in January as part of our permanent ICS collection. Remember, Celebration Books are a tax-deductible gift.

ALL: Inclement Weather Policy

When there is inclement weather in the Washington Metropolitan area, we are asking you to use the following means to confirm the ICS decision:

  • Check your email, text and phone messages for emergency notification from ICS.  This will be sent by ParentSquare.
  • Check the front of the ICS website. Go to www.icsva.org.
  • See ParentSquare>Resource Documents for more information here.

A decision to delay or cancel classes will be made as early as possible. When Fairfax County decides to delay or close, we will always post the ICS schedule for that day, usually by 6:00 a.m.

*Immanuel Christian School will usually follow Fairfax County decisions for closings and delays related to weather or road conditions especially in the case of new precipitation. Exceptions to Fairfax County decisions will occur when county conditions do not apply to Immanuel Christian School. For example, we will not close due to heating or air conditioning problems in county facilities, or due to vehicle problems in county bus transportation, or due to sidewalk conditions for neighborhood schools.

ALL: Notes from the Clinic

CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against influenza and its potentially serious complications. What is Influenza (Flu)? Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.

Flu Symptoms – Influenza (flu) can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Flu is different from a cold. Flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

  • fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • muscle or body aches
  • headaches
  • fatigue (tiredness)
  • some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

*It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.

How Flu Spreads – Most experts believe that flu viruses spread mainly by tiny droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby. Less often, a person might get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching his or her own mouth, nose or possibly the eyes.
