Please note changes to the end of year calendar

Due to the Immanuel Bible Church construction in the Worship Center here are some changes to the school calendar. For additional information see the post in ParentSquare here.

  • May 21: End of Year Assembly: Grades K-8 at 8:30 a.m.
    • Recognition of Marty Crabtree’s 20thyear of service to ICS
    • Homeroom teachers in grades 3-8 will present a scholastic award and a citizenship award
    • Students reciting 100 verses will receive their award.
    • The 2019 Yearbook will be presented.
  • May 31: 8th Grade Graduation: “A Night to Remember”, 8th Grade families and special guests only 7:00-9:00 p.m.
  • June 4:
    • No Graduation
    • Fundraiser at Silver Diner by Springfield Town Center from 5:00 -8:00 p.m.
  • June 5:
    • No Awards Assembly
    • Aloha Day

2019-2020 ICS School Calendar

Please note:
August 30, 2019: Classes will be held as usual on the Friday prior to Labor Day, August 30. We are aware that Fairfax County will no longer hold classes on this date as mandated by state law. As a private school, ICS has the option to design an independent calendar from local county school systems and we have decided to continue with a normal school schedule on this date. As always, our families have the option to notify the school of their child’s absence in the event this schedule conflicts with your family plans.

March 12, 2020: Early Dismissal. We will once again host the ACSI Math Olympics on March 12, 2020. Grades K-8 will be dismissed at noon on this day in order to accommodate our guests for this event.

Last Fun Lunch & Smart Lunch

  • Last Fun Lunch is Wednesday, May 22.  No Fun Lunch on May 29. Hot dog lunch for everyone on May 30 (Sports Day).
  • Last Smart Lunch is Friday, May 24.

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week, May 6-10, 2019

This is a wonderful time to celebrate our faculty and staff at Immanuel Christian School and to show them our gratitude and appreciation for all they do for our children, our school family, and for the kingdom of God. The Parent Service Organization (PSO) has planned something special for each day of that week – see details below: 

  • Monday, May 6: Bring flowers and cards to your grade level teachers and teaching assistants. This year we are also including 10 additional ICS faculty and staff members to each grade so everyone at ICS can feel loved and appreciated. You should have received an email from your PSO Classroom Team with details.
  • Tuesday, May 7:Kindergarten through 4th grade parents will provide a Trail Mix & Smoothie Bar in the Teacher Resource Room for all faculty and staff.
  • Wednesday, May 8:5th through 8th grade parents will provide a Breakfast Bar in the Teacher Resource Room for all faculty and staff.
  • Thursday, May 9: The PSO is catering a luncheon for our ICS Faculty & Staff. 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade parents will provide desserts, drinks, decorations, set up and clean up.
  • Friday, May 10: Students dress down in their teacher’s favorite color. Your PSO Classroom Team will coordinate this with you.

Parent Service Hours Due May 15

Please record your Parent Service Hours before May 15. Directions to log your hours into ParentSquare can be found here. Families should serve 20 hours total. Parents who enrolled their children after September should pro-rate their required hours at the rate of 2 hours per month. Single parents serve half the number of required hours. Parents who have not submitted their hours in ParentSquare by the end of the school year will be billed for the unserved hours. Please contact Becky Klapmust if you have any questions.

Sports Awards Night: Thursday, May 16

The Sports Awards Program for the soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse, and cross-country seasons will be Thursday, May 16 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the ICS gym.  We look forward to seeing you there as our athletes are recognized for participating in our sports program.  There will be a dessert fellowship following the presentation of awards.  Those with last names beginning with A-M please bring fruit and N-Z bring dessert.  Dress is nice jeans (or better) and no t-shirts, please.

Sports Day is May 30 – Parent Help Needed

Sports Day is coming!  This is one of the students’ favorite days of the school year!  It takes many volunteers to pull together this day of fun, camaraderie and fitness for our students.  We need your help to make this day special.

  • Lunch Helpers Needed:  A ParentSquare post will be published soon for you to sign up for a time slot.
  • Grades 1 & 2 will enjoy activities coordinated by Mark Warden, while grades 3-8 will enjoy Sports Day activities coordinated by Lisa Fisher.
  • Students and teachers will wear their Serve-A-Thon t-shirts from the fall.
  • A hot dog lunch will be served to students, volunteers, siblings, alumni and teachers. Volunteers may use this time for Parent Service Hours.
  • Faculty vs 8th grade volleyball game will be in the gym at 1:30 p.m.

High School Alumni Invited Back on Sports Day

ICS alumni currently enrolled in high school are invited back to campus to join us for lunch starting at noon and then stay to compete in the annual Alumni vs. 8th grade volleyball game on Sports Day, Thursday, May 30. Please RSVP here.

ICS Library’s Two Day USED Book Sale: May 22-23

Come and join us in the Library for a great selection of used books, Wednesday, May 22 – Thursday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go to support the ICS Library!

Volunteers are needed for fair set-up, fair take-down, class visit assistance, and promotion. Watch for a ParentSquare post to sign up. See you at the USED Book Sale!

4th Grade Enrichment Class Launching Businesses on Wednesday, May 22

The 4th Grade Enrichment students will launch their businesses on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23.  They will have their businesses set up in the hallway next to the library and will be selling their products between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The businesses launching that day are:  Sweet Friends, Hope Through Clay, Nate’s Notes, Salvation Slime, Gifts for All, Pastry Universe, and WWW (World Wide Water).
Please stop by and support their great efforts.
*Special Note:  Dr. Turner suggests that parents discuss money expenditure restrictions with their children.  The goal is for your children to stock up on great books for summer reading, not a ton of sugar before dinner!  J  Hopefully, there will be a good balance between books and business items.

Return Library Books by May 24

It’s that time again! All ICS library books not related to class assignments need to be returned by Friday, May 24, 2019. Lists of overdue items will be sent to parents and posted in all classrooms as a reminder to students. Failure to return books will result in a fine for the replacement cost of the book plus a $5.00 processing fee per title. Unpaid fines will result in report cards being withheld. Questions? Silver Diner Fundraiser: Tuesday, June 4

We have a school fundraising night scheduled at the Silver Diner in Springfield (6592 Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA 22150, near Springfield Town Center) on Tuesday, June 4 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Take out and dining in options are available! This is a great opportunity to close out another year and say goodbye to friends just before summer!

Spring Orchestra Assembly: Friday, May 10

The Spring Orchestra Concert will be Friday, May 10 from 2:15 – 3:00 p.m. in the Worship Center.  The concert will feature the ICS Concert Orchestra, as well as the Beginning Band and Beginning Strings ensembles. All are welcome to attend.

Spring pollen and allergies

Spring is here and along with it very high levels of plant and tree pollens. Playing outdoors, children accumulate high counts of pollen, especially in their hair, eyebrows and lashes.

To avoid some of the allergy reactions please see the following suggestions:

  • Bath at the end of the day, including hair.
  • Change sheets, pillowcases.
  • Vacuum cars, indoor carpets and upholstered furniture.
  • Change air conditioner filters routinely and clean fan blades.
  • Wipe down sports equipment.
  • Insure children take all allergy medications they have been prescribed.
  • Washing hands, when in the School Clinic, is a current policy.

Rising 6th grade Immunization Requirements for 2019-20

Rising 6th graders will need an additional TDAP immunization. Please review your child’s immunization record and make plans to fulfill this requirement at your next doctor’s appointment or by August 1, 2019. Bring documentation to the school nurse or email at

Extended Care Employment Opportunities

Extended Care is growing our team. If you need part-time work, love children and want a flexible schedule, please consider joining us. Extended Care runs every afternoon immediately following dismissal and on Teacher Workdays. It is a perfect job for someone who is interested in 10-20 hours a week, but still wants to be home by 6:00 p.m.! Student applicants are welcome but must be at least 16 years of age. ICS Basketball Camp: June 17-21 Registration Open Now!

Registration is now open for the ICS summer basketball camp! This exciting basketball camp is for rising 4th-9th grade students.  Please register online here. Cost is $225. We Collect Box Tops

Bring your Box Tops in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child(s) name and grade to Reception and make sure you check the dates on the Box Tops as expired dates will not be counted in the totals. Remember to sign up and support ICS here. Once you register, you will have access to coupons for box top products and have the opportunity to play fun games and earn eBox Tops for our school. Vacation Bible School: Saturday, June 22 (one day only)

Due to upcoming renovations in the Worship Center this summer, we are changing things up! Instead of a week of VBS, we will have a one-day event. The cost is free but registration is required. Register here.

Come as a family and spend the afternoon learning about our “second” birthday, playing fun games, making crafts and listening to some great worship music. We’ll also have face painting, inflatables and food trucks with yummy food available for purchase!
