Annual Fall Assessment Week – October 1 - 5, 2018

All K-8th grade ICS students will participate in Fall Assessment Week from October 1 – 5 during the morning hours of 8:30-11:30 a.m. daily. Students in grades 3-8 will be administered the Iowa Basic Achievement Test (Iowa) while students in grades K-2 will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) only. Grades 5 and 7 will take both the Iowa and CogAT. The CogAT assessment is not an achievement test but rather a snapshot of a students’ current reasoning and problem-solving abilities. At ICS, the results of these assessments are used as a diagnostic tool by teachers to evaluate and guide curriculum planning and instruction.

To prepare for Assessment Week, please consider the following now:

* Make sure your child has plenty of time to unwind before going to bed.

* Start the morning routine early enough to have a good breakfast together.

* Leave home early enough so your child is at school by 8:15 a.m. or earlier (doors open at 8:00 a.m.).

* Reschedule appointments that were made for the morning hours of October 1 – 5 now.

Students with unexcused absences during testing hours will be retested later in October for a fee of $25 per testing section. Please refer to the Parent-Student Handbook for absentee information.

What is the difference between Renweb, ParentsWeb, ParentSquare?

  • RenWeb is our Student Information System.  It incorporates the enrollment process and classroom management as well as family contact information.  It is used for attendance, homework, grading, report cards and other administrative tasks.
  • ParentsWeb is the parent portal to RenW Parents can access student homework and grades in the Middle School.  Web forms, contact information as well as documents can be found here.  Students can also access information through the Student Login of ParentsWeb.
  • ParentSquare is a communication package not related to RenWeb, though it was populated and updated using family contact information previously provided.  It incorporates volunteer sign ups, parent conferences and Parent Service Hours (new this year) and serves as a vehicle for school-wide class and group communications from the administration and teachers. Time-sensitive alerts are also sent through this system such as school closings.

ParentSquare: Helpful Hints

  • For questions concerning ParentSquare, contact Diane Carnahan.
  • If you have not received the invitation to set up an account or if you need another invitation, contact Diane Carnahan.
  • If two parents are using the same email address they must share an account, but can both access the same account from their computers or phone apps.
  • Don’t forget to enter the code (96167) for the time-sensitive alerts into your phone’s contact list.
  • Parents should enter in their contact list in order for messages to avoid being classified as junk.

Please take advantage of this guide and pray for the needs that are outlined there, even if you cannot come to Parents in Prayer each week.
  • You are especially encouraged to participate in Parents in Prayer when your child’s class is being featured for focused prayer. A notice via ParentSquare will be sent to you prior to this event.

Don’t Lose It – Label It! Order labels for clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.
