Verse Recitations –  Pray for our students as they practice their Scripture memory verses, to be recited at the end of the 2nd quarter.  Pray that the Word of God will truly be hidden in their hearts for the rest of their lives.

Budget Preparation – Please pray for our school board members and the administration as they continue with the process of planning for next year.  May the LORD guide their decisions with prayer, wisdom and discernment. The school board members are: Brad Beall, David Drum, Chris Gleason, Huber Parsons, John Rutherford, William Sprance, J.D. Taliaferro, and Scott Thompson.

CIA Projects – Pray for each class as they begin their ongoing projects in the community and with our partner public schools.  Please pray that students would develop true hearts for service through our Character In Action ministries.

Basketball Season – Pray for the four basketball teams as they continue this season. May the student players learn important lessons of teamwork and good sportsmanship while they have fun competing with other schools.

Parent Volunteers — We thank God for each and every one of you who has served in some way so far this school year.  We could not fulfill our mission here at ICS without all of your help and support!

Fellowship Opportunity – Pray for the Pasta Palooza Family Dinner Night on Friday, January 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., that many ICS families will come for this special evening of good food, fellowship, music, ICS Bingo and board games.

First Look Fridays – Our next First Look Friday is scheduled for Friday, January 19. May God bring to our school the families He intends to have with us here at ICS.

High School Discussions/Decisions — Pray for guidance for our school board and high school committee as they continue to make plans for the ICS high school.  Pray especially for curriculum development, fundraising efforts, student and faculty recruitment and details regarding location. Praise for progress made so far and prayers already answered.

 Parents in Prayer – Please join us on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. after morning drop-off.

You are invited to join other parents every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. to pray for our students, our teachers and staff.  This is a vital ministry that benefits all of us at ICS.  Parents meet in B201, at the end of the 8th grade hallway.  Your child’s class and teachers will be prayed for specifically during the year.  You are welcome to drop in when you can and especially when your child’s class is being featured!

 January 16 –  God is our Father

To pray for our own children:  May ________ not despise Your discipline and not resent Your rebuke, because You discipline those You love, as a father the son he delights in.   From Proverbs 3:11-12

January 23  God is our Fortress

Scripture:  Psalm 18:1-3; Psalm 59:16-17; Psalm 62:6

To pray for our own children:  Since You are ________’s rock and fortress, for the sake of Your name lead and guide him/her.   From Psalm 31:3

From Mr. Danish, Head of School:

  • Pray for the completion of the 2018-19 budget as the ICS Board sets tuition levels and salaries for the coming year.  Pray for new families of God’s choosing to consider ICS for their children next year.
  • Pray for the ICS High School initiative and for the on-going work of the ICHS Committee.  Pray especially for current negotiations to secure a facility that will meet the needs of ICHS.

From Mr. Pinkley, Asst. Head of School:

  • Pray for team unity as a faculty as we strive to further God’s kingdom through a first-class quality Christian education.

 4th Grade A:  Ms. Sarah Calhoun -Teacher; Mrs. Jan Yantz –TA  

Character Traits:  Responsibility and Compassion

Class Verse:  Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men.”

Projects/Skills: We will be working to complete our 1st and 2nd quarter verse recitations at the end of January.  In Math we will continue to build on our multiplication and division skills as well as decimals and fractions.  We will be learning to use Excel to represent data.  In Grammar, we will continue to build on our knowledge of the parts of speech.  In Social Studies, we will continue to look at our state of Virginia and explore the colonial time period.

Prayer Requests:  Please pray for focus and determination as we continue through the year. Please pray that each student will give their best effort in all that they do, big or small. Please pray that students feel encouraged and equipped to use their gifts and talents to lift up others in our classroom.

Middle School Science –  Mrs. Kate Alvarado, Teacher

 Character Traits:  Wonder in exploring the world around them and Perseverance in learning critical thinking skills!

Class Verse:  The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1

Projects/Skills:  8th Grade: Physics Unit: Forces and Motion; 7th Grade: Genetics and Heredity, Origins Unit discussing Creation and Evolution

Prayer Requests:  For students to enjoy and recognize the wonders of creation around them, that speak to the love and wisdom of their Heavenly Father.  Seeing the designs, patterns and laws as evidence of God’s pleasure in our inquisitive and wondering minds. 8th grade is studying the Laws of Motion and will be designing different projects for various challenges.  7th grade will learn how we have been “knit together” and designed with care and intelligence as we look at the principles of genetics. We will also study the importance of Origins and why having an intelligent, loving Designer is crucial to our world view. Please pray as the final details of our trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky are being worked out.  The trip will be for 7th graders, April 11 -13, 2018.
