Serve-A-Thon 2017 – Serve by Giving!

Serve-A-Thon community service projects are completed, but there is still work to do. Every grade has successfully completed an area of service to our community.  Each ICS class, supported by valuable parent volunteers, did a GREAT job cleaning, planting, reading, packing, drawing, writing notes of encouragement and praying for each other these last three weeks!  We hope our students learned how much fun it can be to serve the Lord by serving others.

But, we can’t stop now! We have until October 31 to SERVE by GIVING!

  • Please email the Class (team) pages to your friends and family and ask them to support our school. Need help locating the class pages? Simply click this link for more information.
  • Three international schools will benefit because ICS will share 10% of our Serve-A-Thon donations!
  • Students have also lovingly packed individual bags of school supplies which are being sent to students in Texas and Florida who have been affected by hurricanes.

We ask EVERYONE to participate and work hard to help us reach our goal! To date, we have raised a little over $35,935.38 so we have a LONG way to go to reach our $70,000 goal. Money raised during Serve-A-Thon is essential in helping us pay teacher salaries, purchase curriculum and fund student activities.

Don’t forget, the deadline for donations to count for team prizes is Tuesday, October 31. There is still time to change the rankings so your class wins a prize on U DID IT DAY (November 17)!

Hearing/Vision Screening at ICS - Thursday, November 2

The Annandale Lions Club is coming to ICS on Tuesday, November 2nd for hearing and vision screening of kindergarten, 3rd and 7th grade students.  The nurses assist in the screening and are always present with the students.  There is no cost for this service, but the Lions Club has asked us to partner with them in their collection of any used eye glasses and hearing aids.  These may be dropped off in the school office.  If your child is not in K, 3rd or 7th grades and you would like your child tested, please fill out a permission slip available in the information rack outside the school office.  Parent (or grandparent) volunteers are needed to help escort students from their classroom to the hearing and vision testing location. You may use this time for Parent Service Hours.  If you are interested in helping, please contact one of the school nurses.

Process for delivering late items to school

Help us protect instructional time! Classes will not be interrupted to deliver late items to your children. Lunches, homework, PE clothes, athletic uniforms and birthday treats brought to ICS after the school day has started should be dropped off at Reception. Please know there is no guarantee that the item will get to the student until break or lunchtime. The teacher will receive an email from office staff alerting them of the drop off.  Items will be kept in Reception (K-4th) and in the Middle School Office (5th-8th) until a convenient time for the student to pick up the item.

Lunch and Recess Help Needed

Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. To help with lunch, contact Lola Hollenbeck, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess contact Art Merkel or sign up on ParentSquare.

It’s not too late to sign up for Orchestra, Beginning Strings or Percussion - only $220 - $325 for the year!

Students will have opportunities to learn basic foundations of music for good performance skills for only $220 – $325 for the year!  To register, please complete the Web Form on ParentsWeb.  Contact Sarah Layman if you would like more information.

EMOMS

How do we protect, nurture and guide without controlling and impeding the growth we want in our kids?  Find out in our next meeting on Wednesday, November 15 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Room A207/209 “Resisting the Urge to Hover:  A Mom’s Constant Struggle”.  This is an issue all moms struggle with at some (or many) points in the raising of their children.  If you are or have struggled with this, please plan to join us at our next EMOMs meeting in November.  Kelly White will be talking about how to navigate the challenging path as moms who really just want our kids to avoid difficult things, but who actually need to grow through it all.  We’ll talk about how letting go, it turns out, is really all about us.
