Serve-A-Thon 2017 Kick Off

We are excited to kick off our annual “season of service” with the ICS family! Our theme this year is, “I have DECIDED to SERVE, GIVE and FOLLOW Jesus.” Several mornings a week during the month of October, the students will hear brief devotionals during morning announcements that reinforce the theme.   Here’s what you can do to help Serve-A-Thon be successful:

School Picture Retakes: Wednesday, October 25

Parents who are unhappy with their child’s individual pictures or who missed picture day in September should plan to have their child’s picture taken on Wednesday, October 25.  Recommended attire is dress clothes for that day.  Students not having pictures taken should be in uniform on this day.  Please bring in your previous photos to turn in during retakes.  If you have any questions, please contact Mary Sue Smith

Standardized Testing Change: Testing will be in March

Due to some administrative difficulties with the Data Recognition Corporation, which scores the Terra Nova 3, ICS will adopt the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). ITBS is a nationally-recognized, norm-referenced test with reports that compare our students’ test scores with those of students of the same grade in other states. While standardized test scores are only one measure of a student’s academic achievement, careful analysis of group and individual scores can indicate student strengths and weaknesses and guide teachers in area of instruction that should be highlighted or reinforced. To prepare for the transition from TerraNova3/InView to Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS)/Cognitive Abilities Tests (CogAT) this year, ICS will test this spring, March 19-23.

What is the difference between Renweb, ParentsWeb, ParentSquare?

  • RenWeb is our Student Information System.  It incorporates the application process and classroom management as well as family contact information.  It is used for attendance, homework, grading, report cards and other administrative tasks.
  • ParentsWeb is the parent portal to RenW Parents can access student homework and grades in the Middle School.  Webforms, contact information as well as documents can be found here.  Students can also access information through the Student Login of ParentsWeb.
  • ParentSquare is a communication package not related to RenWeb, though it was populated and updated using family contact information previously provided.  It incorporates volunteer sign ups, parent conferences and Parent Service Hours (new this year) and serves as a vehicle for school-wide and class communications from the administration and teachers. Time-sensitive alerts are also sent through this system such as school closings.

Lunch and Recess Help Needed

Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. To help with lunch, contact Lola Hollenbeck, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess contact Art Merkel or sign up on ParentSquare.
