Parents of Rising K-4th Graders: Just Around the Corner is tomorrow, Friday, February 10
All parents of rising kindergarten through 4th grade students are invited to attend the information session Just Around the Corner on Friday, February 10th from 8:30–10:00 a.m. in the Terrace Room. Don’t miss it! Attend this important event to visit with upcoming teachers, learn how to continue navigating your child’s education within a Christian framework and preview more specifically what is coming in your child’s next grade. Automatic Re-Enrollment for 2017-2018 – FACTS Account Withdrawal March 24
Important re-enrollment information will be sent home soon. Please review it carefully. Click here to see the 2017-2018 rates. You MUST notify the school March 3, 2017 if you do NOT want to be automatically re-enrolled, otherwise your re-enrollment deposit will be automatically collected through FACTS on March 24. If you are not re-enrolling or your plans are uncertain, complete the re-enrollment opt-out/withdrawal Web Form on ParentsWeb. If you have questions, please contact Lauren Gessner.
Siblings of current students: APPLY NOW for the 2017-2018 school year!
If you are planning for another one of your children to come to ICS for the 2017-2018 school year, now is the time to apply! Applications are steadily coming in and space is limited. Log on to your online application account to begin the sibling application today. Sibling application fees are only $75. Forgot your username or password or have any questions? Contact Lauren Gessner, Enrollment Manger.
Applications for tuition assistance are processed online by FACTS. All required documentation is due by April 1. There is a processing fee of $30 for this service. Please remember that a new online application must be completed each year you request tuition assistance. Details are available on our website under Tuition and Financial Aid.
PTF Pasta Palooza Family Night – Friday, February 24: Buy Tickets Now
Break out your favorite board games and bring along your appetite to the Pasta Palooza spaghetti fellowship dinner and game night sponsored by the ICS PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship). Mark your calendars for Friday, February 24, 2017 because you don’t want to miss this fun evening featuring delicious food, games, ICS bingo with prizes, fellowship and music! This fellowship night is a great opportunity to spend the evening eating delicious food while visiting with friends as you play board games with other ICS families. Visiting Day is March 23! Invite a friend to attend ICS for a day!
Do you know of a family who is considering a change to private Christian school? Perhaps they have considered Immanuel but feel they need more information? We are offering a great opportunity to show what ICS is all about. Current 3rd through 7th grade students are encouraged to invite a friend to school on Thursday, March 23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All visitors will enjoy a pizza lunch as well! Auction May 5, 2017! It’s time to Fiesta!
Please join us Friday, May 5, 2017 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. in the Atrium for a special evening celebrating Immanuel Christian School. This is sure to be a fun night for all – filled with a Live and Silent Auction, delicious food, entertainment, testimonials and great fellowship. Save the date on your calendar and line up a babysitter early!

We continue to build our FIESTA TEAM so come join our committee PRONTO! It’s a great way to make new friends, get your creative juices flowing and earn Parent Service Hours while benefitting our school. Fiesta Auction Wish List
We are so excited about Fiesta 2017! Fiesta will include a Live Auction, Silent Auction, Teacher Experiences, student-created projects, Student Portraits and a Piñata “Pull”. To pull this off we’ve created a Wish List. Please consider contributing in some way. Proceeds from Fiesta go to the ICS Partnership Fund providing annual revenue to bridge the gap between tuition and education costs by supporting mission-critical expenses. Gifts of all amounts, both large and small, will continue to provide opportunity for our students to develop the academic skills and spiritual depth they need to make a difference in the world. On Saturday, February 4, forty-five schools (with 360 students) in the northern Virginia area met at George Mason University for the regional Mathcounts competition. The following students represented ICS:
- 8th graders Lars Griffin, Alicia Indelicato, Michelle Indelicato
- 6th graders Chris Beran, Ethan Bittinger, Paul Couts, Tyler Richard, Madelyn Taliaferro, Charlene Tucholski
Many thanks to Mrs. Chris Pate, former ICS math teacher, for helping prepare Math Club students for this event, to Mrs. Esther Hyun for her assistance. Congratulations to all on a job well done!
Job Openings for 2017-2018
ICS is now accepting applications for Lower School Teachers, Upper School Teachers and Lower School Teaching Assistants (part time). All teaching positions are full-time and require an education degree and classroom experience. Visit www.icsva.org/employment for more details and to apply.
Weather Delays/Cancellations Update
When it comes to delays and/or cancellations because of weather our general rule is that we follow FCPS’s delays/closures. However, in unique weather situations we may differ from what FCPS will do. For instance, if the sidewalks are covered in snow (so students can’t walk to school) or if the weather is extremely cold we may have a full school day or different delay than FCPS. Emergency notifications will go through Parent Square from the number 96167 by text, phone call and/or email about school delays/closures. Notifications will also be on the ICS website at www.icsva.org and on our Facebook page. Contact Diane Carnahan if you have questions.

Note from Clinic: Help Prevent Illness
We are seeing a large number of students at school with fevers, sore throats and upset stomachs. If your child is complaining about any of the above symptoms, please be sure to take their temperature before coming to school. Students are not allowed to come to school if they have vomited or had diarrhea within the last 24 hours. They must also stay home if they have had a fever of 100 degrees (or higher) within the last 24 hours. Students may return to school after being fever-free for 24 hours without being on fever-reducing medication (Tylenol or Motrin). Thank you in advance for doing your part in keeping our kids from spreading illness.
School Calendar for 2017-2018: Notice Significant Changes
- Mondays will be a FULL day schedule with dismissal at 3:20 p.m. No more 1:30 p.m. dismissal. Several teacher workdays are scheduled throughout the year to accommodate teacher training and professional development.
- First Day of School is Monday BEFORE Labor Day, August 28, 2016
- Conferences are a Friday, Monday and Tuesday (November 3, 6 & 7)
- Thanksgiving Break will be a full week off (November 20-24)
- Christmas Break will be two full weeks off (December 18-January 1)
- Meet & Greet OPEN HOUSE: Thursday, August 24, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
- First Day of School: Monday, August 28 – Full Day
- Teacher Conferences: November 3, 6 & 7
- Thanksgiving Break: Monday-Friday, November 20-24

Label Your Jackets, School Uniforms and PE Uniforms with your Student’s Name
Winter is here! The weather is colder and jackets and sweaters are being worn to school. Please label your items with your student’s name. Many school clothing items are left behind after PE and sports activities. Items with a name in them will be returned to the student.
We Collect Box Tops
Bring your Box Tops in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child(s) name and grade to Reception and make sure you check the dates on the Box Tops as expired dates will not be counted in the totals. Remember to sign up and support ICS here. Once you register, you will have access to coupons for box top products and have the opportunity to play fun games and earn eBox Tops for our school. Immanuel Christian School is accepting applications for substitute teachers (a bachelor’s degree is required). Find the application here. Please send your cover letter, resume and application to Eleane McCoy, Lower School Principal (K-Grade 4) or Rachel Reno, Upper School Principal (Grades 5-8).
Donations Needed for Library Used Book Sale
The library is now accepting gently used donations of Children’s and Young Adult fiction, Adult fiction and all ages Non-Fiction for our Used Book Sale coming this Spring. The Used Book Sale dates are May 31-June 1 (Wednesday-Thursday) 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. in the school library (Room C202). Lunch and Recess Help Needed
Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. Your help gives our teachers a little break in the middle of their day to enjoy their lunch. To help with lunch, contact Lola Hollenbeck, Lunchroom Coordinator, and to help with recess, contact Julie Neville.
IBC Women’s Conference – March 24 & 25
Mark your calendars for “Be Still-Finding True Rest for Your Soul” on March 24-25 at Immanuel Bible Church. Take a break from the frenzy and join our speaker Vicki Courtney to discover the good news that God can restore your body, soul and spirit.
