Serve-A-Thon Thank You

It is with great excitement and gratitude that we announce Serve-A-Thon 2016 raised $70,611. All throughout the month of October, the students “served, lived and gave” differently here on campus and in the community. Thank you for your generous financial support, as well as volunteering your time. It has been a joy to watch the students’ enthusiasm while they served and demonstrated the love of Christ. As is our tradition, ICS will donate 10% of our Serve-A-Thon donations to our sister schools in Romania, Rwanda and India. This year part of the 10% donation will also benefit an ACSI school in Haiti which was badly damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Click here to read about this effort.

Wilderness Retreat Receptions: Mark your calendars

Do you want to hear more about your 8th grader’s days in the woods other than “it was ok” or “we had fun”?  Come join the 8th grade class and the Wilderness Retreat staff for an evening of sharing.  You will be blessed through personal narratives of the trip and a special video.  Please plan to join us for this special event.

  • 8A:  Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30–8:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room
  • 8B:  Thursday, December 1 at 7:30–8:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room

STEMbassador Program

As part of ICS’ STEMbassador program, students are invited to share their STEM-related talents with their peers. On Wednesday 7th grader Megan Cobb taught a dozen middle-school students how to make balloon animals. Megan shared with everyone how she started making these creations after receiving a book on the topic at an ICS function. Megan planned her presentation, supplied all the needed material (a pump and lots of balloons!) and did a great job teaching everyone how to make a balloon dog. We look forward to learning how to make more balloon animals in the future.  Great job, Megan!  In past years, STEMbassadors have presented such activities as “Chemistry Club” and “The Math Behind Card Tricks.” Any 6th, 7th or 8th grader who has a fun and interesting idea of a STEM-related activity should contact Mrs. Ferrell.

Student Talent Show Becomes a Bi-annual Event

We are changing things up and moving our ICS talent show to a bi-annual event. This means that we will not have a talent show this year and the next Immanuel’s Got Talent show will be in the spring of 2018. This will give all the planners out there an additional year to plan and prepare for acts! We understand this may be a disappointment to some, but this schedule gives us the opportunity to develop other all-school community events and will keep the talent show fresh and exciting. Plan ahead and we can’t wait to see how our students’ talents grow!

Parking App for DC Field Trips

There is an app to easily pay for parking in DC.  If you plan to drive for a field trip there, you might want to consider getting the app.  Here are some tips.

Lunch and Recess Help Needed

Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. Your help gives our teachers a little break in the middle of their day to enjoy their lunch. To help with lunch, contact Lola Hollenbeck, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess, contact Julie Neville.
