Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Up: October 21-28
Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 11, Monday afternoon, November 14, and Friday, November 18. Parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher(s) to discuss student progress and receive the first quarter report card. The conference sign-ups will take place October 21-28 through ParentSquare.
- Families with multiple children at ICS will sign up Friday, October 21 – Monday, October 24.
- Families with 1 child at ICS will sign up Tuesday-Friday, October 25-28.
- Please sign up through ParentSquare. A ParentSquare post will be sent from each teacher to sign up.
- Upper School Parents: Only need to schedule conferences with teachers if there is a particular concern or desire for a conference, since there is open access to student grades and progress via ParentsWeb.
End of Quarter Verse Recitation: November 3 & 4
Verse Recitation will take place for students in grades 1-8 on Thursday, November 3 (1st try) and Friday, November 4 (retry). Memory verses for each grade are available on the school website.
Serve-A-Thon is off to a good start!
3rd grade did a great job kicking things off by cleaning and beautifying Hidden Pond. Kindergarten and 1st grade served right here at ICS. 4th grade and 7th grade will round out the week at Nottaway Park and Annandale Terrace Elementary School. It has been a FANTASTIC week of teambuilding and service.
- Please continue to pray for safety and good weather as 2nd grade, 5th grade, 1st grade and 6th and 8th grades keep the excitement going while they serve next week.
- Remember to send out the link to the Team Fundraising pages so family and friends can support and encourage the classes. This year our team goals are $3,500 per class and $70,000 school-wide. Also, don’t forget that you can add a note of encouragement to your student that will scroll on the team page.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers. We cannot serve without your help!
School Picture Retakes: Wednesday, October 26
Parents who are unhappy with their child’s individual pictures or who missed picture day in September should plan to have their child’s picture taken on Wednesday, October 26. Recommended attire is dress clothes for those getting their picture taken. Students not having pictures taken should be in uniform on this day. Please bring in your previous photos to turn in during retakes. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Sue Smith.
Upcoming ICS Annual Book Fair: November 1-4
Vote for Good Books! Come join us in the Library for a great selection of books and educational games from Bookworm Central, Tuesday, November 1 – Friday, November 4 from 8:20 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Extended hours: Wednesday and Thursday, November 2 & 3 until 6:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed for fair set-up, take-down, class visit assistance and promotion. Contact Library Staff here or call 703.941.1220 to help.
Kindergarten Readiness Seminar: November 1
Please join ICS and IBC on Tuesday, November 1 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. in the Library. The seminar includes information on navigating your child’s education within a Christian framework, reviewing educational philosophies available in Northern Virginia, learning about what kindergarten teachers look for on the first day of school and applying practice activities to help students prepare for kindergarten. Childcare is available. Please RSVP by October 25.
Next First Look Friday Open House is October 28
Help us spread the word about Immanuel Christian School by inviting friends, co-workers and neighbors to visit ICS for a tour! They will have the chance to view the facility, see teachers and students in action and to meet current staff and parents. Your child should have brought home an envelope with First Look Friday postcards and information about promoting ICS in our community. Process for delivering late items to school
Help us protect instructional time! Classes will not be interrupted to deliver late items to your children. Lunches, homework, PE clothes, athletic uniforms and birthday treats brought to ICS after the school day has started should be dropped off at Reception. Please know there is no guarantee that the item will get to the student until break or lunchtime. The teacher will receive an email from office staff alerting them of the drop off. Items will be kept in Reception (K-4th) and in the Upper School Office (5th-8th) until a convenient time for the student to pick up the item.

Upper School Principal Search
ICS is conducting a search for an Upper School Principal to begin as early as January 2017. Qualifications include a master’s degree in education and a minimum of five years teaching experience. Upper School Spanish Sub Needed January-March

The Advancement Team is gearing up to plan Fiesta: A Celebration and Auction on Friday evening, May 5. Can you help? We need all kinds of talented event volunteers to join our growing team. Do you have a student ready for rocket science? 7th and 8th graders can now sign up for ICS Rocketry Club! Meetings are Monday afternoon 1:45-3:15 in the Upper School Science Classroom bi-monthly. With the help of Mrs. Alvarado and parent mentor, the students will be responsible for designing and building a rocket that meets the TARC standards. Starting in December, monthly trips out to Great Meadows for rocket launches will occur. Commitment to attend these fieldtrips is necessary for the success of the club. A $75 fee is required to help pay for the team registration, software simulation and rocket parts. For more information or to signup, please email Mrs. Alvarado.
7th & 8th Grade Science Trip to the Grand Canyon
If you are interested in sending your 7th or 8th grader on the science trip of a lifetime, please click here to learn more about our trip. ICS will be going during Spring Break, April 10-14. Some highlights of the trip will be visiting the Valley of Fire State Park, Hiking the Narrows, Zion National Park, Horseshoe Bend, float trip down the Colorado River, Grand Canyon and more! Mr. Pinkley will be leading the trip along with our Upper School Science teacher Mrs. Alvarado. Our plan is to take this trip every other year. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Pinkley.
Lunch and Recess Help Needed
Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. Your help gives our teachers a little break in the middle of their day to enjoy their lunch. To help with lunch, contact Lola Hollenbeck, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess contact Julie Neville.
General Mills Box Tops: Contest Winner is 5A
We received a total of 6,858 BoxTops for the fall submission. That’s $658 toward our $1,000 goal! The class that submitted the most was 5A, with 822. Keep clipping and saving box tops! Please contact Jennifer de Vallance with any questions or to help with our fall Box Top clipping and counting drive.
