Academic Honor Roll for 3rd Quarter
Congratulations to those students who have made the Honor Roll for grades 5-8 for the 3rd quarter. To qualify for 1st Honors, students must have an academic average of 95% or above and satisfactory citizenship. For 2nd Honors, students must have an academic average of 90-94% and satisfactory citizenship. A list of students who made the Honor Roll is attached.
Employment Openings for 2016-2017

You are invited to tomorrow’s Immanuel’s Got Talent Show!
Join us for the 5th annual Immanuel’s Got Talent talent show! There will be an all-school assembly on Friday, April 29 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the Worship Center to see performances from students in grades 4-8. You may even see some staff show off their skills! Parents, family members and friends from all grade levels are invited to attend what is sure to be an exciting event! Farewell to our student-teacher Joel Van Kampen
We have been privileged to have Joel Van Kampen complete his student-teaching assignment at ICS. Joel has done a superb job teaching PE and health to our students. Joel’s last day is Tuesday, May 3rd. He will be graduating from Cedarville University as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Joel, thank you for investing in the lives of our students.
Parent Service Hours due May 16
Please record your Parent Service Hours before May 16. To do so, log into ParentsWeb, click on Family Information and then your name tab. Click on Service Hours, then “ADD” on the first line for the current school year. Select your service description, enter the hours, note the task and the contact person (in “Verified By”) for whom you worked. Families should serve 20 hours total. Parents who enrolled their children after September should pro-rate their required hours at the rate of 2 hours per month. Single parents serve half the number of required hours. Parents who have not turned in their hours by the end of the school year will be billed $15/hour for the unserved hours. Please contact Sharon Dotson if you have any questions. Opportunities to serve on Sports Day, June 9, will be coming. Watch for details.
Return Library Books by May 13
It’s that time again! All ICS library books not related to class assignments need to be returned. All library books must be returned by Friday, May 13 to avoid incurring a fine. Lists of overdue items will be sent to parents and posted in all classrooms as a reminder to students. Failure to return books will result in a fine for the replacement cost of the book plus a $5.00 processing fee per title. Unpaid fines will result in report cards being withheld. Questions? Spring Book Fair: May 25 & 26
Mark your calendars for May 25 & 26, Wednesday and Thursday. Our theme is “Paws to Read.” Join us in the ICS Library, Room C202, for a great selection of books and games from Bookworm Central. Book Fair hours will be 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. each day.
Spring Orchestra Assembly - Friday, May 13
The Spring Orchestra Concert will be Friday, May 13 from 8:45 – 9:15 a.m. in the Worship Center. Come learn about the “Language of Music” with our school orchestra and music classes. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade music classes will be playing in recorder ensembles with the orchestra.
Re-order Now: Serve-A-Thon/Sports Day T-Shirt: Deadline Thursday, May 5
Serve-A-Thon t-shirts are worn on Sports Day by every student. If your child has lost their t-shirt or has outgrown it, you can order one for $10. Order on Parents Web->Web Forms->Reorder Serve-A-Thon T-Shirt. For payment, send cash or check made out to ICS. Click here. New students who enrolled after school started will receive a t-shirt at no cost.
Retirement Tributes Needed for Mrs. Beall and Mrs. Marsh: Deadline June 1
We will be celebrating the retirements of two of our librarians, Carol Beall and Ann Marsh, in June. We welcome your tributes for their faithful service! The deadline is June 1. Please click here to send your words of appreciation.
Uniform Exchange Coming Soon: May 25-27
The Uniform Exchange will take place the week of Monday, May 23 in the breezeway. Used clothing in excellent condition may be brought in. ONLY Lands’ End uniform items will be offered for the Exchange, with the following exception: plaid kilts and jumpers from Flynn & O’Hara.
- Uniform drop off: Monday and Tuesday: May 23 & 24
- Uniform Exchange: Wednesday – Friday: May 25-27
Volunteers are needed to help with the Exchange. Please contact Mary Sue Smith if you are interested.
100 Verse Recitation
There is an opportunity at the end of the 4th quarter for students who wish to quote additional verses to total 100 verses for the year. A special Bible, which the student selects, is awarded at the graduation ceremony for this achievement. Please note that all additional verses must be printed and submitted to their Bible teacher by May 13. All students who want to recite 100 verses must recite them by Monday, June 6. Please contact your student’s Bible teacher for specific details.
ICS Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser: Tuesday, May 31
Join the ICS family at Chick-Fil-A, Springfield location, Backlick Shopping Center, 6681a Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA 22150. Throughout the day, if you mention ICS during your purchase ICS will receive a portion of the day’s receipts. We look forward to seeing you there!
Capital Athletic Conference Track Meet: Tuesday, May 3
The annual Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) track meet will be held again this year at Langley School on Tuesday, May 3. We need lots of parent volunteers to be timers, ribbon writers and to help get the kids to the right events. No training is required and you will receive Parent Service Hours for volunteering. We will depart ICS at 11:00 a.m. and be at Langley School from noon to approximately 5:30 p.m. You may volunteer for the day or any amount of time that you are available. Please contact Travis Briggs, our Athletic Director, as soon as possible to sign up. It is a premier event for the CAC and is lots of fun for both the kids and adult volunteers.
Sports Awards Night: Thursday, May 19
The Sports Awards Program for the soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse and cross country seasons will be Thursday, May 19 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the ICS gym. We look forward to seeing you there as our athletes are recognized for participating in our sports program. There will be a dessert fellowship following the presentation of awards. Those with last names beginning with A-M please bring fruit and N-Z bring dessert. Dress is nice jeans (or better) and no t-shirts, please.

Volunteers are needed for the day for events and to help with the hot dog lunch! Watch for details.
Annual Faculty vs. Student Softball Game – May 25 at 3:45 p.m.
Faculty vs. Student Softball Game will be Wednesday, May 25 at 3:45 p.m.! Parents and students are welcome to come out and watch the ICS faculty take on the ICS girls’ and boys’ softball teams.
Alumni Event: June 9
ICS Alumni are invited back to campus to join us for lunch starting at 11:45 a.m. and then compete in the annual Alumni vs. the winner of the 8th Grade vs. Faculty volleyball game on Sports Day, June 9. Please RSVP here.
Lunch and Recess Help Needed
Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45-1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. Your help gives our teachers a little break in the middle of their day to enjoy their lunch. To help with lunch, contact Daniel Padilla, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess contact Julie Neville, Recess Supervisor.
ICS Basketball Camp: June 20-24
ICS basketball camp will be Monday – Friday, June 20-24. Camp will be held in the ICS Gym from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Camp is limited to both boys and girls entering 4th – 9th grades. Click here to register.
MOPS Meeting: May 9
Happy Spring, MOPS moms! Our next meeting is Monday, May 9, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in A207. We will have croissants and chicken salad for a picnic dinner, plus a summer-y dessert! Our last speakers of the 2015-2016 MOPS year are Diana Warden and Jenny Britton on the topic of “Joyfully Embracing Summer ‘Rest'”. Come say good-bye to this year where we Embraced Rest, Noticed Goodness and Celebrated Lavishly! Your mom friends are all welcome!
Vacation Bible School at IBC: June 27-July 1
Mark your calendars for June 27 – July 1 for the week of Vacation Bible School.
- AM Program – 9:30 a.m. – Noon (4 years old by 9/30/16 – entering 3rdgrade)
- PM Program – 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. (entering 4th– entering 6th grades)
