All School Dress Down Day tomorrow, November 13 in honor of our Blue Ribbon Award
Students should wear BLUE clothing; blue jeans are permitted! This will be a great way to end the week celebrating our 2015 National Blue Ribbon School award.

Academic Honor Roll for 1st Quarter
Congratulations to those students who made the Academic Honor Roll for Upper School (grades 5-8) the 1st quarter. To qualify for 1st Honors, a student must have an academic average of 95% and above and satisfactory citizenship. For 2nd Honors, students must have an academic average of 90-94% and satisfactory citizenship. Click here to view a list of students who made the Honor Roll.
Congratulations to Dr. Eleane McCoy
Please join with us in congratulating our Lower School Principal, Eleane McCoy, in the recent completion her doctoral dissertation, Parent as Role Model: A study of Parent Education and Prosocial Communication Skills of Children in Northern Virginia. Dr. McCoy is receiving her doctoral degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina. Graduation ceremonies will take place on December 11 on campus. Dr. McCoy will continue to focus her efforts in mentoring and guiding our kindergarten-4th grade faculty and students. Congratulations, Dr. McCoy!
Serve-A-Thon Donation Deadline is Tomorrow, Friday, November 13
Thank you for your generosity and for emailing team fundraising pages to family and friends! To date we raised $46,500 towards our $100,000 goal. There is still ONE MORE DAY for donations to count towards TEAM (class) totals to determine the top three classes who will win one hour at the ICS indoor fun park on Wednesday, November 18.

- All school celebration November 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the Worship Center – Parents are invited to attend our celebration which features student testimonials about class service projects during Serve-A-Thon, video/pictures, music and more!
- Donut Bar – All students will enjoy adding toppings to donuts at our very own donut bar as a way to say “thank you” for serving and raising funds for ICS and for Christian schools around the world!
- Team awards – Our top three teams with the highest points will enjoy one hour in the ICS indoor fun park featuring inflatables, activities and special treats!
- Other team prizes (dress down day, ice cream sundae party) will be announced at the celebration and enjoyed on Tuesday, November 24.

Plan now to celebrate the end of Serve-A-Thon on U DID IT DAY by wearing Serve-A-Thon t-shirts (jeans are permitted) on Wednesday, November 18.
Kindergarten Readiness Seminar: November 17
Please join ICS and IBC on Tuesday, November 17 from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the Library. The seminar includes navigating your child’s education within a Christian framework, reviewing educational philosophies available in Northern Virginia, learning about what kindergarten teachers look for on the first day of school and applying practice activities to help students prepare for kindergarten. ICS Elementary Choir Performance: Friday, November 20

Copies of abridged Julius Caesar Play Needed for 5th Grade
If you have a former ICS 5th grader with a copy of the abridged Julius Caesar play (published by Steck Vaughn), we would greatly appreciate having your copy donated back to ICS. It is no longer in print and difficult to find. Copies can be dropped off at Reception. Thank you!

All School Christmas Program and Grandparents' Day is Friday, December 18: Mark your calendars!
Family and friends are invited to join our K-8 students for the Christmas program on December 18 at 8:45 a.m. in the Worship Center. Grandparents will be recognized during the assembly! Please take note of important details below:
- Worship Center doors open at 8:15 a.m.
- After the program, grandparents are invited to the Atrium for coffee and music by our instrumental music students and then a visit their grandchildren’s classroom(s).
- Information about Grandparents’ Day was included in your youngest child’s report card. Please mail invitations to grandparents, special adult relative or guest as soon as possible. We would like RSVPs by December 11. If you need additional invitations or have questions, please contact the school office.
- Questions? Below are some of the commonly asked questions and answers.
May parents and siblings attend the Christmas program? Yes! Everyone is invited.
Are parents able to visit the classrooms with the grandparents? We request that only grandparents or special guests visit the classrooms because space is limited. If grandparents need special assistance, please contact Kim Akers in the school office to let her know that a parent will be accompanying the guest.
Do my guests need to RSVP? Yes, we would love to know about how many guests to expect. The RSVP can be mailed back to ICS or can be completed online through the ICS website.
If I am mailing the invitation do I still need to update my grandparent information on ParentsWeb? Yes, we would like to know grandparent contact information so we can mail them a Christmas greeting.
May I help? Certainly! Lots of help is needed so please click here to volunteer.

Alumni Reunion Brunch on Grandparents' Day – Spread the word
Christmas is just around the corner and is a great time to reconnect with former ICS classmates! We are extending an invitation to all ICS Alumni to join us once again for Grandparents’ Day, followed by a brunch in their honor, Friday, December 18 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Last year’s event was a big success and we look forward to seeing many of our alumni back on campus. Wilderness Retreat Receptions: Mark your calendars
Do you want to hear more about your 8th grader’s days in the woods other than “it was ok” or “we had fun?” Come join the 8th grade class and the Wilderness Retreat staff for an evening of sharing. You will be blessed through personal narratives of the trip and a special video. Please plan to join us for this special event.

ICS Gala and Auction on Friday, April 15
- Do you have connections or items to donate for our auction? This is our first auction in many years and we are excited for this opportunity to raise funds for our students and teachers. We know that many ICS parents have connections and relationships that will assist the auction committee as they gather items for the live and silent auction but we need to know who you are! Please contact Allison Masson and let her know if you have some of the following connections or are willing to donate items or experiences:

ICS Basketball Season 2015
Basketball season is just around the corner!
Tryouts will be held as follows:
Varsity Boys: November 12 and 13, 3:15 – 5:00 p.m.
Varsity Girls: November 16, 1:30-3:15 p.m. and November 17, 3:15-5:00 p.m.
JV Boys: December 3 and 4, 3:15 – 5:00 p.m.
JV Girls: December 9 and 10, 3:15 – 5:00 p.m.
The tryout dates, practice dates and game dates are available for you here, as well as on the school calendar on the ICS website. There are hard copies available outside the Upper School office and the main office.
Recess Supervisor Needed
ICS is currently seeking a Recess Supervisor. The Recess Supervisor is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and positive play environment for ICS students, grades 1-8. Applicants must be able to handle disciplinary situations appropriately, direct parent volunteers capably and communicate with school faculty and administration effectively. Candidates must be available to work 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For an application, please go to our website and apply online. We Collect Box Tops
Bring your Box Tops in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child(s) name and grade to Reception and make sure you check the dates on the Box Tops as expired dates will not be counted in the totals. Remember to sign up and support ICS here. Once you register, you will have access to coupons for box top products and have the opportunity to play fun games and earn eBox Tops for our school. If you have questions, please contact our coordinator, Jennifer deVallance.
Immanuel Christian School is accepting applications for substitute teachers (a bachelor’s degree is required). Find the application here. Please send your cover letter, resume and application to Eleane McCoy, Lower School Principal (K-Grade 4) or Erin Smith, Upper School Principal (Grades 5-8).
Lunch and Recess Help Needed
Parent volunteers are needed to help in the lunch room and at recess from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. daily (K-4: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and grades 5-8: 12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.). While you help, you can eat lunch with your child, see them interact at recess and get to know fellow parents and your child’s classmates. We are in need of regular volunteers to help one day a week or every other week. Your help gives our teachers a little break in the middle of their day to enjoy their lunch. To help with lunch, contact Daniel Padilla, Lunchroom Coordinator and to help with recess contact Dale Pinkley.
Volunteers Needed: Assembling the ICS Christmas Card on Friday, Nov. 20
We need help adding ribbon to the ICS Christmas Card Ornament. If you can give an hour or more or even a few minutes after morning carpool or before afternoon carpool or throughout the day, we can use your help. Contact Jen Baxter to let her know when you plan to come. Bring your favorite Christmas movie and watch it while you work!
MOPS & EMOMS - A Special Evening in December
Calling all preschool and elementary school moms! We are thrilled to join together on Monday, December 7, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Atrium to celebrate Christmas. Deshua Joyce will be the guest speaker. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of celebration, fellowship, and encouragement from God’s Word.
IBC Women's Retreat: March 4-5, 2016
